Præstantia Scripturæ Sacræ

The Condemnation of the
Propagation of Rash and Erroneous Views
in the Study of the Holy Bible

The Automatic Excommunication
Of Propagators and Defenders of Heresies
Including Modernist Heretics
(By Whatever Name)

Motu Proprio (On his own initiative) of Our Most Holy Lord Pius X, by Divine Providence Pope, on the decisions of the Pontifical Commission on the Bible and on the censures and penalties against those who neglect to observe the prescriptions against the errors of the Modernists:
In his Encyclical Letter Providentissimus Deus, given on November 18, 1893, Our predecessor, Leo XIII, of immortal memory, after describing the dignity of Sacred Scripture and commending the study of it, set forth the laws which govern the proper study of the Holy Bible; and having proclaimed the divinity of these books against the errors and calumnies of the rationalists, he at the same time defended them against the false teachings of what is known as the higher criticism, which, as the Pontiff most wisely wrote, are clearly nothing but the commentaries of rationalism derived from a misuse of philology and kindred studies.

Our predecessor, too, seeing that the danger was constantly on the increase and wishing to prevent the propagation of rash and erroneous views, by his Apostolic letter Vigilantes Studiique Memores, given on October 30, 1902, established a Pontifical Council or Commission on Biblical matters, composed of several Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church distinguished for their learning and wisdom, to which Commission were added as consultors a number of men in sacred orders chosen from among the learned in theology and in the Holy Bible, of various nationalities and differing in their methods and views concerning exegetical studies.

In so doing the Pontiff had in mind as an advantage most adapted for the promotion of study and for the time in which we live that in this Commission there should be the fullest freedom for proposing, examining and judging all opinions whatsoever, and that the Cardinals of the Commission were not to reach any definite decision, as described in the said apostolic letters, before they had examined the arguments in favor and against the question to be decided, omitting nothing which might serve to show in the clearest light the true and genuine state of the Biblical questions under discussion. Only after all this had been done were the decisions reached to be submitted for the approval of the Supreme Pontiff and then promulgated.

After mature examination and the most diligent deliberations the Pontifical Biblical Commission has happily given certain decisions of a very useful kind for the proper promotion and direction on safe lines of Biblical studies. But We observe that some persons, unduly prone to opinions and methods tainted by pernicious novelties and excessively devoted to the principle of false liberty, which is really immoderate license and in sacred studies proves itself to be a most insidious and a fruitful source of the worst evils against the purity of the faith, have not received and do not receive these decisions with the proper obedience.

Wherefore We find it necessary to declare and to expressly prescribe, and by this Our act We do Declare and Decree that all are bound in conscience to submit to the decisions of the Biblical Commission relating to doctrine, which have been given in the past and which shall be given in the future, in the same way as to the Decrees of the Roman Congregations approved by the Pontiff; nor can all those escape the note of disobedience or temerity, and consequently of grave sin, who in speech or writing contradict such decisions, and this besides the scandal they give and the other reasons for which they may be responsible before God for other temerities and errors which generally go with such contradictions.

Moreover, in order to check the daily increasing audacity of many Modernists who are endeavoring by all kinds of sophistry and devices to detract from the force and efficacy not only of the Decree Lamentabili Sane Exitu (the so-called Syllabus), issued by Our order by the Holy Roman and Universal Inquisition on July 3 of the present year [1907], but also of Our Encyclical letter Pascendi Dominici Gregis given on September 8 of this same year [1907, We do by Our Apostolic Authority repeat and confirm both that Decree of the Supreme Sacred Congregation and those Encyclical Letters of ours [e.g. Pascendi Dominici Gregis], adding the penalty of excommunication against their contradictors, and this We Declare and Decree that should anybody, which may God forbid, be so rash as to defend any one of the propositions, opinions or teachings condemned in these documents he falls, ipso facto, under the censure contained under the chapter Docentes of the Constitution Apostolicae Sedis, which is the first among the Excommunications Latae Sententiae, simply reserved to the Roman Pontiff. This Excommunication is to be understood as salvis poenis, which may be incurred by those who have violated in any way the said documents, as propagators and defenders of heresies, when their propositions, opinions and teachings are heretical, as has happened more than once in the case of the adversaries of both these documents, especially when they advocate the errors of the Modernists that is, the synthesis of all heresies.

Wherefore We again and most earnestly exhort the Ordinaries of the dioceses and the heads of Religious Congregations to use the utmost vigilance over teachers, and first of all in the Seminaries; and should they find any of them imbued with the errors of the Modernists and eager for what is new and noxious, or lacking in docility to the prescriptions of the Apostolic See, in whatsoever way published, let them absolutely forbid the teaching office to such; so, too, let them exclude from Sacred Orders

[i.e. exclude from all four Minor Orders; also exclude from all four Major Orders of:  Sub-Deaconate, Deaconate, Priesthood, and the Episcopacy]
those young men who give the very faintest reason for doubt that they favor condemned doctrines and pernicious novelties. We exhort them also to take diligent care to put an end to those books and other writings, now growing exceedingly numerous, which contain opinions or tendencies of the kind condemned in the Encyclical Letters and Decree above mentioned; [e.g. Pascendi Dominici Gregis]; let them see to it that these publications are removed from Catholic publishing houses, and especially from the hands of students and the Clergy. By doing this they will at the same time be promoting real and solid education, which should always be a subject of the greatest solicitude for those who exercise sacred authority.

All these things We will and order to be sanctioned and established by Our Apostolic Authority, aught to the contrary notwithstanding.

Given at Rome in Saint Peter's, the 18th November, 1907, the fifth year of Our Pontificate.

Pius PP. X.

Brief Editorial Commentary by Patriarch Jacobus Maria DeJesus, D.D.

When the ex-Augustinian monk, whom some call the Father of Protestantism, Father Martin Luther, O.S.A., [b. at Eisleben, Saxony, Holy Roman Empire on Saturday, November 10, 1483 - d. at Eisleben, Saxony, Holy Roman Empire on Monday, February 18, 1546] unlocked Lucifer from the chains which had held him in check since the Bloody Sacrifice of God the Son, Jesus Christ, on the Cross on that first Good Friday, Lucifer set loose a flood of lies and error upon the Catholic world which he had apparently been planning during his 16 Centuries of confinement, and to which Saint John alludes:

"I saw a star fall from heaven upon the earth, and there was given to him the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit" (Apocalypse 9:1-2).
Some of these lying errors had to do with the incorrect interpretation of the Bible.  This is why there are so many different so-called "bibles" in circulation today!  During the 16th Century, for example, various Protestant leaders, including Luther, interpolated, mis-translated, and even omitted parts of, the Bible in order to try to justify, and to otherwise try to substantiate, some of their heretical teachings.

Unfortunately, this tendency has not been limited to the now over 300 different denominations of Protestant churches.  It also began to take root in the Roman Catholic Church.  The Infallible Roman Catholic Pope Leo XIII, Gioacchino Pecci [Wednesday, February 20, 1878 - Monday, July 20, 1903], recognized that this was a growing problem and hence established a Pontifical Council, or Commission, on Biblical matters with his Apostolic letter Vigilantes Studiique Memores, of Thursday, October 30, 1902.

Unfortunately, certain rebellious spirits did not want to submit to the authority of this Pontifical Commission on Biblical matters, which explains why their actions were reprimanded and condemned by his successor, the Infallible Roman Catholic Pope Saint Pius X, Giuseppe Sarto [Tuesday, August 4, 1903 - Thursday, August 20, 1914] in his Motu Proprio - which means On His Own Initiative - Præstantia Scripturæ Sacræ, the text of which is given above.

In addition to the condemnation of those who interpreted the Bible according to their own personal whims, and not in accord to the prescriptions of the Roman Catholic Church, obliquely referenced, namely according to the unanimous consensus of all of the Fathers of the Catholic Church, as given by their required sworn Oath, a.k.a. the Profession of Faith, mandated by the Infallible Roman Catholic Council of Trent, the Infallible Roman Catholic Pope Saint Pius X also went on to not only condemn, but also to automatically excommunicate - Latae Sententiae - those who propagate and/or defend and/or opinionate and/or teach heresy, including the heresy of Modernism, which heresy the Infallible Roman Catholic Pope Saint Pius X had previously condemned in his Encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis of Sunday, September 8, 1907.

Saint Pius X goes on to clearly explain that:

"this excommunication is to be understood as salvis poenis, which may be incurred by those who have violated in any way the said documents, as propagators and defenders of heresies, when their propositions, opinions and teachings are heretical, as has happened more than once in the case of the adversaries of both these documents, especially when they advocate the errors of the Modernists that is, the synthesis of all heresies".
Thus, the actual source for the frequently repeated quotation today:
"Modernism is the synthesis of all heresies".
Because the anti-Catholic Vatican 2 church is awash in the heresy of Modernism, and because most of its own clergy, including, but not excluding, its popes, and many of its cardinals, bishops (of whatever ecclesiastical rank), priests, and religious, etc., it is of the greatest importance and urgency for everyone to realize and to understand that to be, or to become, a Modernist heretic, is not some kind of option or choice, as if this was nothing more than choosing various food items in a cafeteria, but rather that there is a severe penalty attached to this heresy, namely that of automatic excommunication Latae Sententiae!

In other words, there is no such thing as a cafeteria Catholic by which Catholics can pick and choose what they prefer to believe, and what not to choose to believe, just as a person picks and chooses the various food selections they prefer to eat, while not choose those foods they prefer not to eat, while in a type of restaurant called a cafeteria, or, if it has a different designation or name, it at least functions as a cafeteria.

This means that if a Catholic rejects even one dogma of the Catholic Church, that person is, technically, a heretic, and therefore is no longer a member of the Catholic Church because that person has been automatically cut off from the Catholic Church in virtue of being automatically excommunicated by Præstantia Scripturæ Sacræ.

This Infallible Papal document very clearly includes the censure, i.e. penalty, of automatic excommunication, Latae Sententiae, of everyone who is a heretic, and most especially a Modernist Heretic. Apparently, in an effort to conceal themselves, it seems that today many automatically excommunicated Modernists Heretics are called NEW Theology Theologians.

Nevertheless, under whatever name, under whatever subtle guise, the bottom line is that such heretics, whether they be patriarchs, popes, cardinals, primates, metropolitan archbishops, archbishops, bishops, priests, deacons, sub-deacons, clergy in minor orders, members of religious orders, members of religious congregations, converts from Protestantism, or any other false faith, and/or members of the laity, still believe, preach, and teach the heretical falsehoods and errors of the Heresy of Modernism and are, therefore, still automatically excommunicated because of this extremely important Motu Proprio (On His Own Initiative), Præstantia Scripturæ Sacræ, issued by the Infallible Roman Catholic Pope Saint Pius X.

Because the Heresy of Modernism, irregardless whatever name is used to hide it, is to be found almost everywhere today in pseudo catholic churches, in one way or another, Præstantia Scripturæ Sacræ is even more important right now - today - than when it was first issued and therefore it is of extreme relevance for today, being crucial to gaining a much better knowledge of, and a deeper understanding of, this very important infallible Catholic Teaching, and in realizing that the NEW mass was composed by automatically excommunicated Heretics!
